Google’s Product Studio: A Generative AI-Powered Image Maker

During the Google Marketing Live event, the tech giant announced the launch of Product Studio, a new tool that uses Generative AI to allow merchants to easily create product imagery. In a bid to give businesses more flexibility, brands will be able to use AI to create new images to be used on the Google platform.

According to the company, the goal of Product Studio is to give merchants the ability to create product images for free and get more value from their existing image stock. In short, instead of having to get new photos or set up new photoshoots, a company can simply use the generative AI image maker to create new images based on concepts input by the user.

But it’s not just about creating new images with existing ones. A user can also use another function that allows for the removal of the background. So if a company wants to remove scenery or another background that might not be testing well, they can replace it with a white one instead.

Right now, it’s expected that merchants in the United States to get access within the next few months. These features will also be available to those using the Google and YouTube apps on Shopify. For businesses attempting to tighten the belt a bit, this could help reduce costs associated with product management. Even for small businesses, this could be quite helpful as it could reduce the need to do reshoots.

Matt Madrigal, the vice president and general manager of Merchant Shopping at Google, spoke to reporters and made the case that AI has already been playing an important role in Google Shopping. And one of those roles was empowering small to medium businesses with technology that would be normally out of their reach.

In a blog post, the company made clear that AI would make their platform easier to use. “For merchants with both online and local brick-and-mortar stores, Merchant Center Next will show all products in one comprehensive view, so it’s easier to manage online and in-store product inventory together…We’ll also show new insights about the potential benefits of fixing errors in product data, so it’s easier to prioritize updates.
